Ellis was a no-hoper. Very sweet and kind and tremendously musical. Untaught but could play anything. He had an organ in their kitchen. But, though he was invited to join the family woollen mill, refused and did all sorts of odd jobs. Never made any money and drank too much. But a lovely, gentle man.
