The map below is of part of the county of West Yorkshire, England (previously Yorkshire West Riding) and it shows the hills and river valleys which have supported the growth of sheep farming and the once world leading wool business which has fashioned the lives and expansion of the Coldwell family over several hundred years. There is a reference to the Coldwell place name in Austonley (red dot on map) recorded some 700 years ago. Coldwell families have migrated eastwards down the river valleys especially the Holme (towards Huddersfield) and the Don (towards Sheffield). Many Coldwell families reside in the area today whilst others have moved to parts of the UK and beyond.
